New Year, New Craft Week 4: Papercraft!

  1. Read time: 4 minutes
  2. Written by: Crafters

January is almost over, a new month is just around the corner, daylight is inching its way back in and there’s the faintest spark of spring in the air. We’ve also come to the final installment of our New Year, New Craft, campaign to introduce you to a new crafting technique each week throughout the month.

And we’ve saved a real treat for the finale – papercraft!

Why Papercraft?

Papercraft opens up a whole world of colour, texture and shape! As well as a kaleidoscope of coloured, glitter, pearlescent and patterned paper or card to choose from, you can let your creativity lead the way to add depth and dimension with embossing, stamping and stencilling, or craft your own 3D elements to add that final flourish!

In fact there are so many avenues and techniques to explore it could seem overwhelming at first, but the joy of papercraft is that you can mix and match whichever takes your fancy – there are no hard and fast rules and no-one is expecting you to become an expert overnight.

So whether you’re drawn to die-cutting, fancy some foilpress fun or want to make an impression with stamping and embossing – the world’s your oyster!

Here are some of the wonderful ways you can get stuck into papercraft:

  • Cardmaking
  • Scrapbooking
  • Favour and gift box making
  • Making memory books
  • Home decor

As well as a fantastic way to learn new creative techniques and disciplines, Papercraft comes with some added benefits – here are just a few:

  • By making the design choices from start to finish, you can let your personality shine through by crafting something that reflects you and your creative spirit
  • Taking the time to sit down, slow down and craft something home-made can be a great way to wind-down and relax
  • Sending someone a card, or gift that you’ve made yourself means that you have taken the time to think about them, their tastes and personality  – it’s really something that money can’t buy!

If we still haven’t convinced you, maybe Bernie Corner can! Bernie is one of our lovely Crafter’s TV presenters and bit of a soft crafts expert. But she’s agreed to pick up papercraft as part of New Year, New Craft – here she is to tell you why!

A few hints and tips to get you started:
